Suicide Risk Screening, Assessment, and Mitigation in Co-occurring Care
This training provides participants with a comprehensive overview of suicide risk screening, assessment, and mitigation strategies within behavioral health and co-occurring treatment settings. Attendees will gain an understanding of suicide risk factors, protective factors, warning signs, and the unique relationship between substance use disorders and suicide risk. Participants will learn how to effectively
conduct suicide screenings using a collaborative, patient-centered approach and how to distinguish between acute and chronic suicide risk. The training also reviews best practices for documentation, risk formulation, and communication among treatment team members. Through case examples and practical exercises, learners will develop skills in creating individualized safety plans, reducing access to lethal means, strengthening protective factors, and implementing appropriate interventions in both residential and outpatient settings. By the conclusion of the course, participants will be better equipped to identify, assess, document, and respond to suicide risk while promoting engagement, recovery, and patient safety.
